People say 'good things come to people who wait' and for people waiting on WYA (Waterford Youth Arts) Social History Film on Tramore and Fenor, that time has almost arrived as WYA's seventh social history film - Tramore Tales - A Social History Film will receive two free premier screenings in O'Sheas Hotel on Wednesday the 3rd of July.
Showing at 3pm and 8pm in the evening this ninety minute long production, will explore the history, culture and social events of the town through a series of interviews, old photos, clips of local activities and performances by local musicians. The film looks at old Tramore when it was quite a small town but with big families. We hear stories about tragedies, romance, dances, Race Week, bits of history and tall tales, stories of emigration and great pubs, Cinema and train stories, learning to swim and heading ‘Down Around’. It captures little glimpses of life today and we see the cockle men in action, hear surfing stories and see the road bowling of Fenor.
DVD copies of the film will be available for purchase after both showings for 10 euros each as well as online and in local shops. More information to come in the following days. Photo Credit - Ciaran Conneely for this great picture of Rocky Mills taken during his interview.
Return of the WYA Summer School
Notice - Places full for 7-9 and 10-13 year olds.
It's almost the end of may and with the rising temperatures (hopefully) and the start of the summer vacation it's time to decide what summer camps / schools to sign up too. With plenty of sports camps in and around Waterford for young athletes, you may be asking what else is there for young people, one great option is the WYA Summer School.

The Lost Elf - Christmas Play
Whether you're a fan of Kris Kringle, A modern day Scrooge or somewhere in between you have to admit its officially Christmas season. This year Waterford Youth Arts is kicking off the season in style with our new play - The Lost Elf.
"Christmas in Waterford City is on the verge of being cancelled....an elf has gotten lost from Santa and finds himself at the mercy of humans. Will their humanity and their Christmas Magic save him and bring him back to the North Pole in time for Christmas Eve? The pressure is on and the clock is ticking to get the Elf home, however the Elf's heart begins to Break and his Christmas Magic slips away when he discovers that no one spends time with each other anymore and that there isn't much love and humanity to be found around the city. Evil & Eviller &the Evilness Corporation are insisting that the only way to have a good Christmas is to spend loads and loads and loads of money. A group of humans are our only hope - they may change their mind and realise wherever you find love it feels like Christmas, hopefully? or else.... Christmas will be cancelled."

This fantastic play was Written and Directed by Martina Collender (If The Lights Change) along with the cast. Starring the WYA Senior Drama Group, some of which performed in this years thrilling Summer Theatre Project - Animal Farm as well as some new young people who only started this term.
The Lost Elf will be running from Thursday the 20th to Saturday the 22nd of December, up in Barrack Street starting at 8 pm. Tickets cost five euros per person or fifteen euros for a family of four. Tickets can be purchased up in the Arch on Barracks Street, over the phone by calling WYA's office at 051 879377 or through Eventbrite - https://bit.ly/2E2Jw5X (Additional surcharge applies). Space is limited so book quickly to avoid disappointment.
